My goal is to build vans that create adventures and memories

Leschke Customs Owner Sean Leschke

My love of vans started in 1998 when I was a climber living out of a Westfalia in Telluride, Colorado.  The best memories of my life were made during that time, many of them with my Westfalia.  That van was part of each day – from rolling over at sunrise to light a burner for coffee, to campfire dinners under Bridal Veil Falls. The Westie was my ticket to all of the memories, delivering me (eventually) to adventure. Plenty of campfire gatherings were spent with other van friends, lovingly complaining about our Westies and dreaming about how we might do it better.

My living arrangements got better after that, but I never fell out of love with van life…before it was #vanlife.  I became a woodworker, and I chased the snow to Utah to start my cabinetry business. A decade later I chased a love of wine to Napa, and when a friend gave me an opportunity to upgrade his older Sportsmobile van with custom cabinetry, I realized I had found a perfect place for my passion and skills.

I want to maximize my time having fun outside, so I build vans to get me out. I don’t want to spend half hour at the start or end of the day re-arranging gear in order to set up or break down the bed so that’s why I install flares in my builds. And maybe I remember a few too many frigid mornings in that Westie, so thinsulate insulation and a super-efficient Espar heating system with controls right next to the bed means snoozing for only 10 minutes before jumping out of bed and into my gear. I’m always looking for ways to improve efficiency and function, while making my vans a beautiful place to rest between the adventures.

So, I thank that Westie for the memories and the valuable lessons learned. I apply my experiences to every build so that you spend more time outside.

I don’t just build from scratch, I can also made upgrades to existing builds.  Or, if you like the DIY process but maybe not the process of scribing and cutting the panels, I also offer panels for Mercedes Sprinter 144 models.
